When is it tooth pulling time?
When the teeth just hurt like hell...or when they strat turning black? How do you know when your tooth is too far gone to be fixed without having to go to a dentist. I know someone planning on letting her teeth get worse so they just get pulled instead of being repaired
How far gone do teeth need to be before they are pulled?
Before letting her teeth get worse try to work out a payment plan with a dentist; teeth can be assessed and then told if they can be saved or not; the idea of let her teeth is most likely due to limited resources---no money---she can try to visit a public clinic; they can help but there is usually long lines because there is a lot of poverty in our land of plenty.
Reply:you can choose to have them pulled now if you like, they dont have to be beyond repair before a dentist will do that. your teeth, your choice. many people elect to do that instead of crowns because of the cost.
Reply:Teeth can be repaired in a lot of bad conditions but if someone does not want their teeth who are we to argue.
Stains can be removed with cleanings and brushing, and hurting my be from something else like an infection, not just a cavity.
Look up abscesses and read about them and then tell your friend about what can happen if they get a real bad abscessed tooth.

I got permanate teeth pulled this morning. Something is happening...is this okay?
So early this morning i got teeth pulled. 2 of them.
So it was 9:30 when they finished pulling and now it is 10:50.
THEY STILL HAVEN%26#039;T STOPPED BLEEDING!
Something is wrong and i have no clue when the pain will go away or ANYTHING!
Please someone help me if you had this experince. Tell me all about what will happen. EX. When will the pain wear off and etc...

are you a hemophiliac? You have not mentioned which tooth? Use cold iced water to gaggle, use cotton gauze %26amp; bit hard on it. Talk less %26amp; swallow your saliva or blood in your mouth, dont keep spitting out. Apply ice on the are.Do not take any thinng hot. It these do not help, go back %26amp; get it sutured.
Reply:Dont drink anything or mess with the holes. You will have pain for a while, maybe a couple days. The blood needs to clot in those holes where they pulled your teeth. Call the dentist if you are worried and ask them what to do

Reply:It is not unusual for the bleeding to continue for a few more hours; however, if it is very heavy and bright red, you need to go back to the dentist now. If it is not heavy, fold some gauge into a comfortable position and put pressure on the places the teeth were. Pressure will help stop any bleeding. By tomorrow morning, you shouldn%26#039;t have problems anymore. Good luck to you.

Your mouth will be sore for a few days, but you can take Tylenol to ease the pain, or whatever your doctor prescribed you for a painkiller. Do not take aspirin because it is a blood thinner and it will interfere with clotting.

Like dr. albertsaid don%26#039;t go poking around, you need the extraction site to form a blood clot. That%26#039;s why it%26#039; important not to drink thru a straw or smoke, dry socket can be painful. I was changing the gauze almost 8 hrs! Also like dr. albert mentioned it was mostly saliva %26amp; oozing...it got lighter after about 4 hrs. I also put an ice pack every 20 min. to redce swelling.

Pregnant mom with twins dream? Teeth pulled?
I had a weird dream today o-o;;
I dreamt that my mom was pregnant with twins and at first when my family found out about this all our reactions were pretty surprised by later we rejoiced? She was embarassed about it though throughout the entire time (because of her age; she%26#039;s 48).
Then later on in the dream, I slept and woke up (still in the dream) and went to the bathroom, where my mom (still pregnant with twins) told me my father removed my excess top left tooth while I was sleeping. I suddenly grabbed one of my teeth and pulled it out like nothing.
The thing is though I can%26#039;t stop thinking about this dream and it%26#039;s bugging me.
I also don%26#039;t need responses like %26quot;it means nothing%26quot; because that really doesn%26#039;t help -_-;; I know vaguely what teeth pulling dream mean but nothing of pregnant twin dreams of someone else.

During braces are on is it okay to have teeth pulled or brought down??????
i just got my braces yesterday and i have a tooth in my gum and i cant feel it or nothin but my mouth is way crowded but im pulling out 4 baby teeth but the tooth in mu gum has to pulled down by an oral surgen and i have a bracket in that spot where the tooth needs to get pulled down. how will that help my teeth getting straight if my tooth is getting pulled down where a bracket is.

And your tooth is getting pulled down? Now there is what doesn%26#039;t make sense, why would someone have their tooth get pulled down when it%26#039;s almost nonexistant in the mouth? But after all, you have braces, and it is perfectly okay for teeth to get pulled. Two of my friends had teeth pulled out surgically, one of them had all of her wisdom teeth pulled and the other just had the two back molars pulled so their braces could fit. So that teeth pulling thing is perfectly normal.

Perfectly normal. You probably have an impacted canine (or another tooth) in the roof of your mouth area? You need to get that brought down...it will suck, I know...but in the long run it is much better for your mouth.

Hi, I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled aug 31,2007. I am so scared. The person who is doing it is a Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. When I had my appt thurday instead of pulling 2 he is going to do all 4. He said he is going to put me to sleep which I was a little mad because I am scared. When he puts me under will I still be able to hear and just be sleepy or will I be just out of it?? What is the difference between being put under and laughing gas. Because when I had laughing gas before I was very sleeping but still opened and closed my eyes. Can anyone give me details who had this done before?

Matter of fact, my bottom ones were buried under the gums and growing sideways (towards the middle of my mouth) and even they were fine.

you will not be aware of anything, and you will wake up after the procedure with no recollection of it.
anesthesia is no big deal and is just like going to sleep.
this is a very simple procedure with extremely small risks.
they may strike a nerve which could make your mouth a little tingly (will not be permanent 99.9% of the time). theres the chance of fracturing surrounding teeth or bones. this can be fixed and should not be a problem.
overall, the risks are very small and any resulting problems can usually be corrected.
it is a very simple procedure and all will go well!

You probably wont remember much, which is good. You will just fall asleep, and then your doc or the assistant will wake you when the surgery is over. You%26#039;ll be pretty groggy after, and sleep pretty much the rest of the day. (plus you will be taking your pain meds which will make you tired) Just make sure that you follow your pre-surgical instructions and don%26#039;t eat or drink ANYTHING before surgery. Not even a glass of water- the anesthesia will make you sick unless you have an empty stomach. Don%26#039;t be scared- You%26#039;ll do fine. At least you%26#039;re doing all 4 at once- then you don%26#039;t have to go through it again. Hang in there! (I worked for an oral surgeon so I know you are nervous. You%26#039;re not alone) By the way- I had mine out too. It%26#039;s not the greatest experience - But not the worst either. Good luck!
Reply:I just had mine done 4 days ago, and I was just as scared as you! I had the same type of surgeon. Trust me, you want to have all 4 done at once, because it would be a lot worse to go through it twice! Being asleep is amazing! They gave me laughing gas before they put the IV in and I was out until a little bit after my teeth were out. My surgeon also gave me a shot in the gums after I was put out, so it took a long time for me to feel any pain, even after I came out of it. Expect your jaw to be stiff and don%26#039;t try to eat anything that requires chewing for a couple days. Take the pain meds they give you. They will help you sleep AND you will definately forget about the pain! You will not hear a thing! The day of surgery is not so bad, but expect to be swollen worse the day after. It will go down gradually. Use ice the first day and make sure to do the salt water rinse and the antimicrobial rinse they give you as they will help to prevent any infection. Follow the post operative directions they give you and you will be fine!

At least you%26#039;re doing all 4 at once- then you don%26#039;t have to go through it again. Hang in there! (I worked for an oral surgeon so I know you are nervous. Reply:I just had mine done 4 days ago, and I was just as scared as you! I had the same type of surgeon. Trust me, you want to have all 4 done at once, because it would be a lot worse to go through it twice! Being asleep is amazing! They gave me laughing gas before they put the IV in and I was out until a little bit after my teeth were out. My surgeon also gave me a shot in the gums after I was put out, so it took a long time for me to feel any pain, even after I came out of it. Expect your jaw to be stiff and don%26#039;t try to eat anything that requires chewing for a couple days. Take the pain meds they give you. They will help you sleep AND you will definately forget about the pain! You will not hear a thing! The day of surgery is not so bad, but expect to be swollen worse the day after. It will go down gradually. Use ice the first day and make sure to do the salt water rinse and the antimicrobial rinse they give you as they will help to prevent any infection. Follow the post operative directions they give you and you will be fine!

I%26#039;m 22 years old and i was told my wisdom teeth are making the front teeth crooked so i must to have them removed as soon as is possible of course by a surgery the problem is that the thought of having a surgery on those four teeth make my whole body shaking. I heard it%26#039;s so painful and since they are at the back of the mouth i guess pulling them is nauseous most of the dentists look like monster in here (Iran) they are not good at thair jobs and the medicine which they inject into the gum in order to make it numb dosen%26#039;t work well first thay crumble the tooth and then...! Anyway i must to overcome my fear somehow i have no choice but to make an appointment. tell me your own experience and give me some confidence i don%26#039;t like to put it off any longer. what would you do if you were me?

I have had all of mine out. Three impacted ones were removed under general anaesthetic and when I woke up my chest was really painful, I swear the dentist kneeled on my chest to exert force to pull the teeth, although he said he didn%26#039;t. That was a long, long time ago - 40 years maybe!
The last one was removed by my current dentist and was not painful at all with the usual injections etc. You could ask for nitrous oxide (laughing gas) as a pre-relaxant.

I opted for the painkilling injection. As I was concious, I was aware of two people holding my head steady whilst the dentist removed the tooth. As the roots on my tooth were twisted, the job was a little more difficult but I felt no pain at all. However, the sound of the tooth cracking was a little unpleasant.
I went home immediately afterwards and took painkillers before the effects of the painkilling injection wore off. The bleeding was very minimal and I kept a small piece of cotton wool in my mouth. I slept relatively well and had no trouble/pain the next day.
I suffered for over 2 years before having one tooth removed and I%26#039;m really glad I did. If I were you, I would ask my friends, family, work colleagues etc if they know anyone who has had wisdom teeth removed and if they would recommend a particular dentist/hospital.

anyway.. the extraction itself should not be painfull... sometime the place where the anesthesia injected is wrong, that%26#039;s why it don%26#039;t work properly, not because it%26#039;s a bad quality.

Reply:I just got my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. And it%26#039;s not hurting me AT ALL right now. They did%26#039;nt give me any pain medicine or anything. They just told me to take 2 ibuprofen, maybe 3. And drink cold things, and if you eat something hot like soup...make sure it%26#039;s not too hot, that will cause it to bleed more. They also told me to put an ice pack on my jaw for 20 minutes every 2 hours, it helps the swelling go down. So far so good. So i would deff. reccomend getting your wisdom teeth pulled. If they are coming in, and you dont get them taken care of, it will cause you to get an absess, and if you don%26#039;t take care of that, the harmful puss in the absess can go down into your heart and kill you. I%26#039;m not lying, i%26#039;m serious. That happened to my friends grandma. So it does%26#039;nt hurt, just take medicine! get them suckers pulled! good luck!

Does getting your wisdom teeth pulled out hurt?
I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled out soon. They are pointing towards my other teeth and aren%26#039;t out of my gums yet. The dentist said they are going to have to dig in to pull them out, and after there would be a big hole in my jaw bone, so they have to fill it with bone marrow. I have a couple of questions.......
1. What do they give you to numb the pain? (I am going to be awake.)
2. How long is the procedure?
3. What does it feel like when they are pulling out the teeth?
4. What can I eat afterwards?
5. How long does it take to heal?

Getting wisdom teeth out just depends on the person and the doctor...
When my sister got hers pulled, they came RIGHT out and she couldnt believe it was over so fast.
But then...my dad had to get STITCHES after he got his pulled...
Sometimes they have to cut the teeth out.
Sometimes they just come out with a pull...
It can take awhile, or it can be done pretty fast.
Reply:I only had one pulled because mine came in fine. They numbed me up with novicane. Then he just pulled it. Dentist made sure I was completely numb before starting the procedure. He then pulled the one tooth. I did not feel anything. I could feel his hand hitting my mouth a little but that did not hurt. He then put gauze in my mouth and you have to keep that in your mouth for like a day. DO NOT take gauze out early. I did that and a bunch of blood came spewing out. Remember to eat a lot before going to dentist because I could not really eat with gauze in my mouth. I started to get weak after a day of not eating. After first day you will be fine.
Reply:When I had mine pulled, they gave me two valium an hour before the procedure. They shot me up with nova-cane, 4 shots in each tooth. Each tooth lasted only a minute or two each.
Its weird, because they are yanking and pulling. You can kinda feel it when they pull it out, you don%26#039;t feel the pain, you just feel a relief of pressure. Also, you can feel the resistance when they pull, and the relief when the tooth is out.
As far as eating, you aren%26#039;t going to eat much afterwards. When I was done, I got home, and I was knocked out for about 16 to 18 hours. When I got up, I ate soup, and soft foods for the first day or two. After that, I was ok to eat whatever.
Healing for me didn%26#039;t seem to take long. When you eat, you just have to make sure you rinse out the socket. If you don%26#039;t, it might not heal, and if it does, you will have problems, because the food will rot in the socket, and you will have really foul breath.

They do not fill the holes with bone marrow . Do talk to your dentist or somebody who has wisdom teeth pulled.
