thanks!

A few questions about getting wisom teeth pulled??
I had all 4 of mine pulled (at the age of 24) . 3 of them came out easily, the last had to be cut out. The 3 that were just pulled didnt seem to hurt that bad. It felt like just getting your teeth pulled. The one that had to get cut out caused me alot of pain. I ended up getting a dry socket. We couldnt figure out how that happened cause I dont smoke, and I never sucked on a straw or anything like that. I was given Tylenol with codeine. Codeine will and can cause nausea if you are not used to it.

This will/can cause swelling.

The best thing to do for it is put ice on it for 15 min, wait 10 min then put a hot pack on for 15 min. Switch back and forth between the ice and the hot pack. It should help. Ibuprofen helped also, due to it being an anti-inflamatory medicine which helps with swelling. The dentist will give you strict instructions and you need to follow them carefully.
Reply:My mom got hers pulled.

1. It hurt for about two days to her and it bleed for many hours, it hurt her bad enough to give her a head ache.

2. She didn%26#039;t get any.

3. Yes it swells, but after a while its hardly noticeable.. I don%26#039;t think there is a way of getting swelling to go away.
Reply:Totally depends on your age

the older you are the worse it is. I think as you age the roots of the wisdom tooth wrap around your jawbone. Then the dentist has to break it in place and remove it in pieces.

if you are young it should be not bad

I wouldn%26#039;t expect much swelling (again cuz you are young)

I know people who had them pulled in the late 30%26#039;s and thier whole head was swollen and purple
Reply:i%26#039;ve heard that it has hurt really bad and people are usaully out of it for a few days... i feel really sorry for you... my friend is getting all 4 of hers pulled and school starts monday for us too... good luck....
Reply:ok to make it as pain free as possible follow all the dentists advice, probally be sore for the day and usually back to normal by the next day, shouldnt be much swelling at all, should only need a couple of panadol and thats about it
Reply:1. it doesn%26#039;t hurt while they%26#039;re doing it. i was asleep the whole time

2. sumtimes but i never used it because i wasn%26#039;t in pain afterwards

3. yea ur face will be a little swolen to help it decrease put ice on ur cheeks. the swelling will be totally gone in abt 3 days
Reply:1. When my dentist pulled mine, I felt NOTHING. I was even awake the whole time (all he did was numb me temporarily).

2. I didn%26#039;t even pop one pain pill in my mouth. I was in no pain afterward. All I did was drink cold water.

3. No, it will not cause any swelling.

***My bad experience was this- he dropped the first wisdom tooth down my throat. It lodged near my sternum, and took me about 10 minutes before I coughed it back up. No harm done.
Reply:The first person is a complete douchebag (pardon my language), but i cant really relate much to this, except to say that you have it better then me. My wisdom teeth are impounded, meaning they never grew out of my gums, so i will probably have to have an operation to get them removed. As for your swelling, only your friends will tease you, but someone will have to be a complete jackass to judge you, in which case, it shouldnt matter how they regard you.
Reply:I just what to start of with no swealing for me at all the problem was when I got them pulled it on;y hurt a little but a couple day%26#039;s later then It hurt alot but it%26#039;s not to bad
Reply:lol.. omg... it hurts really bad. do it on the weekends... sleeping will be pretty much all you%26#039;ll do. Don%26#039;t take the pain medicine that they give you, i sure didn%26#039;t but my dad took that away from me, so I suffered lol. It does cause swelling, but in like two days, it%26#039;ll usually go away, just get plenty of rest.
Reply:about a week then its a dull ache

they shouldnt

A little but it shouldnt be noticeable
Reply:Unfortunately this is a question that differs. My mother had them pulled and it didn%26#039;t hurt her at all but my aunt did and she could barely eat. Same thing happened to 2 of my friends. So it actually differ. But they usually prescribe a strong pain killer my one friend was prescribed Vicodin.
Reply:I had mine pulled in December. It hurts the first two days the most then it kind of settles down. The painkillers tend to make you nauseas, try to take ibruprofen or something else lighter if it will do the trick. Ice it- 20 minutes on then 20 minutes off. Most of the swelling should be gone within four days.
Reply:1) It depends. If your threshold to pain is low, then it will hurt a lot, say for 2-3 weeks.

2) It depends again. If you%26#039;re used to pain pills then choose the one which best works for you but if you%26#039;re not tell your dentist so that he may prescribe you properly.

3) Yes. It will cause swelling. I had my wisdom teeth pulled and it even caused some infection which made my face swell further. This gradually healed when I drank antibiotics.

The general rule is consult your dentist for any changes following your extraction.
Reply:When I had my wisdom teeth pulled it was a walk in the park. There was no pain, no swelling and I remember taking pain pills but I didn%26#039;t even need them (and, no, they didn%26#039;t cause nausea). I hope your experience is as good as mine was.
Reply:ive got mine pulled out and it hurt for a day it wasnt an unbearable pain but i could tell it was there. It didnt swell. i didnt receive pain killers either just anisthetic when it was gettin pulled.
Reply:when i had my wisdom teeth remove, it hurt for about 3-5 days- however i had mine extracted, not pulled- i was not given pain medication after the procedure- and i promise that you will want to ice your face after the surgery- when i got home from my extraction that was the one thing my mom forgot to do while i was knocked out- and i swelled up like a chipmunk- i would (and i%26#039;m not a dr.) reccomend to ice for 20 min and leave it off for 30 min- repeat for the first few hours at least, but ask your dentist... he will be able to give you a lot more viable info than i can... good luck, and take a couple days off for it!
Reply:1. 3 days and until labor it was one of the most painful experiences in my life. But, after labor not so much. About a 5 out of 10.

2. Yes, the codiene they gave me made me throw up.

3. I think the swelling will be gone if there is any by Monday. It%26#039;s seem like I had some swellling but not too much.
Reply:1. it doesnt hurt at all during the process and u have 2 options....a full body anesthesia which means ur unconscious throughout the whole procedure or u can just have a needle of anesthesia injected near the teeth being pulled and be fully awake......when ur fully awake u can feel ur teeth being ripped out of ur jaw but there%26#039;s no pain (i had all 4 of mine done that way)

2. the pain pills does dull the pain a bit but it%26#039;s not the pain that u should be worrying about...it%26#039;s the discomfort

3. depends on how bad ur wisdom teeth grew

if the roots of the wisdom teeth have not grown yet....meaning ur pulling ur wisdom teeth early and not waiting till they%26#039;ve sprouted from ur gums then it should be easer

but if u have the worst case scenario (which was wat i had)

all 4 teeth were tilted and beneath my molars.....so my dad had to cut them up first then remove them piece by piece....which also created a bigger hole in my gums so more swelling

i%26#039;d say u have 3-5 days till u feel normal again

the first 2 days after being pulled i just drank water....my own blood (oozing from where my teeth use to be) and i just slept...well tried to anyway
Reply:#1- It wont hurt too much right after because

you will still have the pain medication in

you from the surgery. After that it will

hurt for a while but its bearable as long

as you dont put pressure on it. Your not

going to be able to chew very well for a

week or so.

#2 Pain pills affect differant people

differant ways, and most medication

they would give you would suggest

nausea as a possible side effect,

however it might not bother you.

#3 Yes it will cause swelling for a 3-5 days

if not more...you can try ice to control

it but its not going to help much.

Just giving you the facts. Its not fun for anyone, but you would be in a lot more pain for alot more time if you didnt get them pulled in the first place. Good Luck!
Reply:1. Only for the first few of days.

2. No, I didn%26#039;t have that problem at all.

3. I also didn%26#039;t have noticeable swelling after my surgery.
Reply:Depends on a lot of factors. I swelled up HUGE on one side of my face, but I was 26 when I had all 4 of mine pulled, and I had my braces adjusted the same day. Having them CUT out may be different. ???

The younger you are the better off you SHOULD be, teenage years are best. I didn%26#039;t talk any pain meds with mine - it wasn%26#039;t exactly a PAIN but more of a discomfort.

You will have HOLES where the teeth once were. They will go away eventually, but it will take months. It is difficult to get food out of them, but a little swish with some water helps a lot.

They should give you ice immediatly after surgery, or suggest you do it when you get home. For swelling later (next day or so), the best thing to do is to put a warm wet cloth between the area and a heating pad - moist heat (per my Dentist.)

Be prepared for soft foods for at least a day. I at a lot of yogurt and such, and drank V8 to get my nutrients.

GOOD LUCK!!!
Reply:Depending on how many you are having pulled could make it a little more painful. Most people only need one or two at a time.

You will be given gauze to apply pressure on the gum in order to allow the blood to clot to keep it from bleeding. It usually takes around an hour for it to stop.

Normally the dentist will prescribe a mild pain reliever like Tylonol 3 (which has a small amount of codine but it isn%26#039;t narcotic so you won%26#039;t get any side effects).

No smoking or drinking of alcohol for 24 hours. sucking on a cigarette can cause the bleeding to restart.

You can eat but it%26#039;s suggested something mushy like ice cream or jello or pudding until the next day.

The pain is usually gone in a day, and the last wisdom tooth I had pulled I didn%26#039;t even need the pain pills.

Tooth extraction has come a long way since when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and it is done with far less pain as well.
Reply:yes it hurt me

the pain releavers cause nausea

and your face will swell,,

but the swelling will go down by saturday night if you try this simple helpfull trick....

make some warm Tea bags, any flavor with real teas in it,

and fold them still full with WARM water over so they fit into the sockets or holes where your teeth usto be, and hold them there for as long as it feels good,,,,,, 10 or 15 mins or so

a few times the first night and next day,, and it will halve the swelling and shorten the healing time by days!!
Reply:i got mine out on a monday and was back at work on thursday.I had 4 taken out at 1ce.my face was swollen for to days.i didn%26#039;t get sick from the pain killers.you would want to drink lots of warm drinks.nothing cold(it hurts).good luck.
Reply:I had mine done a few years ago. They had to cut all four out. I was terrified. They stuck an IV in my hand and later the pain medication made me nauseous.

You%26#039;ll probably be swollen for a few days, and maybe a tiny bit puffy on Monday. Really the worst part for me was all the worrying I did before the surgery. It wasn%26#039;t half as bad as I thought it would be.
Reply:My experience:

1. doesn%26#039;t hurt at all if they put you under. Took about 20 minutes to pull all four teeth. After that I woke up and felt fine. Went home and rested for about four hours and then went to a social event.

2. No nausea for me. I had vicatin (spelling?) and didn%26#039;t have any symptoms.

3. Yes, but the swelling goes away in about a day. You will look fine the next morning.

Don%26#039;t stress
Reply:how much pain depends on if they are impacted (under the gum) or all the way in. the pain pills can cause nausea. it will cause some swelling but should last only a day or so. just make sure you follow all directions given by your oral surgeon. good luck.
Reply:1. It hurt a little to take them out.... I thought the Dr was going to break my jaw the way he was pulling (at one point I thought he was going to jump on my chest and put his foot on my chin!@#$%) I was numb so it didn%26#039;t really %26quot;hurt%26quot;, but the pulling and tugging was just kind of shocking to me. 2. Surpisingly, I never even had to fill the RX, I just took Tylanol, but he gave me an RX just in case. 3. The next day you really couldn%26#039;t tell that much....you should be fine by Monday, and even if your not, nobody else will be able to tell....
Reply:1. It shouldn%26#039;t hurt because your dentist will give you a pain pill. But it still depends on your tolerance to pain. But there will be discomfort, as expected. If pain is not relieve by your pain meds, call your dentist.

2. NO, it should not, unless you have a unusual or allergic reaction to it. Again call your dentist to inform him/her if it happens.

3. there will be swelling as it is part of the healing process but it should not be very big nor painful or your cheeks should not turn red. It usually get bigger up to 3rd day then subsides on the 4th to 7th day. But you can go to school on Monday. Unless infected, it%26#039;s not that noticeable.
Reply:here you have a video of surgical procedure.....
