Anyone every have their wisdom teeth pulled??

So I%26#039;m having one of my wisdom teeth pulled out in a few weeks, and I am very apprehensive.....it has to come out because it has a cavity in it, and I can only afford to have this one pulled. So can anyone give me any words of encouragement? I could really use it. What if I wake up while they are pulling??? AAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone every have their wisdom teeth pulled??
No. Idiot! Nobody ever has.
Reply:I got them pulled today! And it wasn%26#039;t as bad as I thought it would be. Thanks to everyone who answered, even the whack-off who was voted as having the best answer.....he doens%26#039;t know he%26#039;s a ba*tard. Report It

Reply:My friend had them pulled and she%26#039;s still alive.
Reply:They give you novacaine and they make it quick.

HOWEVER, stay there until you are certain that the bleeding has stopped completely.
Reply:NO! look at bush, see how retarded he is? he got his wisdom teeth pulled!!!.......
Reply:haha i had like 3 of mine taken out when i was a youngi.. it doenst reeli hurt.. they just put a needle in ur mouth, so ur mouth goes numb and u cant feel a thing.

good luki matey!
Reply:i only had my two bottom ones removed luckliy i didn%26#039;t have any on top. i was scared but at least i don%26#039;t have to worry about them being removed later in life or having them hurt to the point where it kills!!!! it will be all over, just take it easy, eat soft soft foods for awhile and make sure you clean the area really well. ((hugs))
Reply:no. mine came in straight on their own. Luckily, I was abusing opiates pretty heavily at the time, so I didn%26#039;t notice so much. but a good dentist will take proper care of you. cheers.
Reply:Piece of cake. Just be mindful of what you say when you are coming out. I think I was very mean to my ex and he still won%26#039;t tell me what I said.
Reply:I was awake the whole time and didn%26#039;t feel a thing.I only had a local not the gas.You will be ok.
Reply:sorry, this wont incourage you, but my dad had it pulled and he woke up during the surgery. he felt INTENSE pain, and saw he%26#039;s blood squirt out.but that was 4 years ago. tecnology is better. you wont wake up and you wont feel any pain. i promise. i you have any mp3 player. that would help.
Reply:yes. your cheeks might plump up like a rabbit .. but that only lasts for a while. it doesnt hurt! i had mine removed when i was awake and i didnt feel anything! dont worry!!
Reply:if the wisdom tooth has a good bite, ie; another tooth to bite against, consider getting a root canal. your better off to keep a tooth then to pull it.

if the tooth has no opposing tooth, might as well remove it, as it%26#039;s not helping you chew.

Even puling a tooth is not that painful. you should only feel pressure.
Reply:Genea, calm yourself, go to a happy spot.... This is no problem dear.... With the newest technology(sister is a dentist) they can extract without pain. I had all 4 pulled at the same time and only one, sort of grew in wrong, was a tad painful, yet with a mild pain pill, all gone. You will be fine and come out with a pretty smile again in no time. Just remember, happy spot happy spot .... Bless you

Reply:trust me.... just get them all pulled now... tell them to set you on a payment plan.... have someone drive you home... get the good drugs and take a couple of days off.... and watch for swelling.

don%26#039;t worry.. they%26#039;ll give you good drugs... you won%26#039;t remember a thing

The only things I remember that day was going in... getting knocked out.... then playing with the buttons on the stereo in the car while the wife was getting the drugs...and waking up on the couch... that%26#039;s it....
Reply:had all 4 pulled at once,2 came out easy, 2not so easy, but dentistry has come a long way, take some headphones and some of your favorite music with u,if the dentist doesn%26#039;t mind.
Reply:i hope wisdom teeth is not necessity for u. you get all the knowledge of communicating and other activitites by being an account holder in yahoo group. ok.....................
Reply:If you do wake up while they are pulling you%26#039;ll just go right back to sleep and won%26#039;t even worry about it. I had 5 teeth(all 4 wisdom teeth and 1 compacted tooth)cut out at the same time. I woke up for a second, the nurses told me they were almost done to go back to sleep, so I did. I was so out of it I couldn%26#039;t have kept my eyes opened if I had wanted to. Don%26#039;t worry about it if they are putting you to sleep. It will be over in just a few minutes most likely.
Reply:I don%26#039;t think I have ever met anyone who still has their. And your getting only one out so you will be fine some discomfort but in a day or 2 it will be gone. I know a few who had all 4 out at the same time. Plus the last time I was at the dentist I had 23 teeth pulled at one time and was awake the whole time, just be glad you will be sleeping and it happens so fast you won%26#039;t have a chance to wake up in the middle. good luck
Reply:no you are not going to wake up while they take it out. i had 2 of my wisdom teeth tooken out a few years ago. i couldnt even feel the pain. all i know is, you go into the dentist office, they give you a shot on your arm...you wont remember when you fall asleep, probably a few minutes after the shot. when you wake up, you will have cotton balls all in your mouth to prevent bleeding, you cannot eat solid food for prob a few days, in other words, you will be in bed or at home all day for the next few days, then after that everything is back to normal, you wont notice anything different in your mouth. hope this helps
Reply:i had 3 wisdom teeth pulled at once and i woke up during them pulling it and i remember them giving me more stuff throught the iv to put me back out, however i was not in any pain when i woke up , i had an iv plus laughing gas together, i slept all day that day so don%26#039;t make no plans for later . otherwise its just like getting any other teeth pulled, wasn%26#039;t a very bad experience for me at all.
Reply:You%26#039;ll do fine! My brother had all 4 pulled out at the same time. The dentists/surgeons are very good at making sure you have plenty of novacaine, you don%26#039;t wake up, you don%26#039;t feel anything, etc. They will also make sure that you are ok to go home. Normally they will make sure that someone is there to drive you home as well as listen to all instructions concerning your surgery, medications for pain, etc.

Now when my brother had all 4 pulled I picked him up. The nurse told me that my brother would be in a lot of pain, that he wouldn%26#039;t be able to go back to work for 3 to 4 days and he needed to take percidane (sp?) for the pain. I can tell you that everyone%26#039;s threshold for pain is different. My brother went home, slept for a little bit, tried to eat chicken noodle soup (the broth would%26#039;ve been better as he had a hard time opening his mouth to eat the noodles - it was quite humorous!), threw his pain medication away, went out partying that night and went to work the very next day. He was just fine!

I would say that depending on your threshold for pain you may be out of work 1 or 2 days, or you may go to work the next day. But your dentist will make sure that you are well taken care of during surgery and that you have plenty of medication for after surgery.

I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;ll do just fine! Just relax and think of this as just a little cat nap. Good luck!
Reply:I was wide awake when I had mine done..all 4 at once and they were impacted in the bone and growing side ways. I had lots of freezing and gas and a walkman. I recovered much quicker because I had no after effects from the anesthetic (like the puking or sleepiness) I got up and walked out of the office under my own power. Good luck, I also found I had great relief with a sinus tylenol as it helps the pain in your face, I found it worked better than the T%26#039;3s
Reply:I had all four of them pulled at once back when I was in college because they became impacted. I had an oral surgeon, not a regular dentist take them out. He gave me an IV, so I was completely unconscious when they were removed. Afterwards, my parents drove me home. The oral surgeon prescribed some Vicodin for me (about a weeks supply), and I ate soft food, ice cream and milkshakes for about a week. Yes it hurt bad, but once they are gone, they won%26#039;t come back again. I had them taken out over spring break and went back to class afterwards with no problems.
Reply:Did they tell you whether it%26#039;s %26quot;impacted%26quot; in the x-ray? If it%26#039;s not impacted, it will be effortless -- they%26#039;ll give you laughing gas and you won%26#039;t mind it at all. If it%26#039;s impacted, potentially much more discomfort afterwards, though you%26#039;ll still be fine during the procedure from the laughing gas and novacaine. It%26#039;s unlikely that they%26#039;ll knock you out.
Reply:My wisdom teeth were pulled about 15yrs ago. I%26#039;m still living.
Reply:They numb you up so much you wont even know when it is out. I%26#039;ve had three out of four out this month. The Novocaine needle hurts for one second and that%26#039;s the only thing you will feel. Basically, the needle hurts for a split second, and after It%26#039;s over you have a couple days with the Vicodin so enjoy!!!!
Reply:I don%26#039;t know how old you are, but I%26#039;m 29. I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out a couple months ago. I took the day off from work. My dentist used a local anesthetic (though I asked for nitrous also) for the entire procedure. I was awake the whole time. He even had so much trouble with one tooth, he had to use the drill to cut it in half to get it out. I went home, took some ibuprofin (over-the-counter, 400 mg) and slept the rest of the day away. I was fine the next day. I had pizza, for goodness sake! Fret not! It%26#039;s a common procedure.
Reply:Actually, I was wide awake when I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled (nothing puts me to sleep). It hurt like hell, to be honest and there were many complications afterwards.

To prevent this from happening to you, I suggest taking medication before you have your teeth pulled. Ask your doctor what medication to take (my doctor didn%26#039;t give me anything). Get lots of sleep and eat your favorite foods before the day arrives.

If you do all of this, you should have no problem. I went through the worst case scenario and survived, which means you should be ok.
Reply:Thankfully, I never had to get my wisdom teeth pulled, and I must admit I%26#039;d be scared shitless if I had to, I%26#039;ve had bad experiences as a kid with some stupid dentist... though I heard a lot of good things about today%26#039;s methods, as in you shouldn%26#039;t feel pain or very little, so don%26#039;t worry! Go there with a positive mind, keep the fearful thoughts away and I%26#039;m sure everything will be alright! *hugs*
Reply:i had all my wisdom teeth pulled, in my case, the upper teeth had no problem whatsoever and it only took 5 mins each to do the whole thing, but my lower teeth was a painstaking procedure because it didn%26#039;t erupt, so, after taking off my tooth, my jaw swell for at least 4-5 days but it doesn%26#039;t hurt, so its ok, i just put cold compress over it. (i only let the dentist pull one tooth at a time) and if it hurts just take a pain killer. and remember to follow your dentist%26#039;s directions after.

p.s. i only got a block anesthesia, i wasn%26#039;t sedated.
Reply:Hopefully you won%26#039;t wake up during the surgery. I had it done. I had all 4 pulled put in one surgery. My doctor recommended this because I would feel the pain and swelling only once all at the same time.

The assistants helped me relax while I was put to sleep. I don%26#039;t know how long it took, but when I started waking up I started crying like a baby. I have no idea why. It happens to some patients. They just wake up crying. After the surgery, I was on antibiotics for a week and I remember taking one or two vioxx pills and tylenol or something. My cheeks were swollen for about 6 days. I looked like I was hit on both sides of my face, but we actually turned that into a joke at home. After the swelling went down the bruise spots went down too.

After that experience, I do recommend that you have all of them removed if you know they are going to cause trouble down the road. My wisdom teeth were impacted, so they needed to come out. Two of them were still under the gums, which was a little harder to get to and caused some of the swelling....

but now they are gone and not missed at all.

Another thing. Because of the fact that I got all 4 out, I had to %26quot;learn%26quot; to open my mouth again. It took about a week and a half. If you get all 4 out, you%26#039;ll be on soups, yogurt and baby food for at least a week until you can open your mouth again wide enough to get a spoon in full of regular food. I coudn%26#039;t even stick my tongue through my teeth.

Good luck, and don%26#039;t think too much about it. You%26#039;ll be fine.
