When you get your wisdom teeth pulled, are you completely under the anesthesia?

What I mean is, when they give you the general anesthesia, do they give you enough to completely knock you out, or do they just give you enough so that you are super groggy and don%26#039;t remember the experience, but are aware that they are pulling the teeth out? I get mine out next Thursday and I am just concerned about how my body will react to the anesthesia. I have never been under anesthesia before, and I know that they give you local as well as general when you get your wisdom teeth out, I guess I am just curious, because it%26#039;s not major surgery, if you are completely under..Thanks guys!

Depends on your dentist, all are different. It`s more important that the Novacaine has fully numbed the affected area. You can be under the gas and still feel pain.
Reply:I believe they do put you under for that. The wisdom teeth are attached to you jaw and can be rather painful when removed. Even if numbed you would feel a TON of pressure as the dentist works.
Reply:when i had mine done last year they gave me something in a needle and i was OUT..all i remembered was waking up in an area that they put you until you wake up..i believe you can asked to be knocked out..i dunno if it depends on insurance or not
Reply:I just had one of mine pulled out hon and let me tell you it%26#039;s not that bad, the novacaine numbs the area and you just let the dentist work. Alot of pushing and pulling but you don%26#039;t feel a bit of pain. When I say I just had one pulled I%26#039;m talking like and hour ago tops, still numb. So don%26#039;t worry:)
Reply:I got general anesthesia a few years back when I had all four wisdom teeth done at the same time. I specifically requested general anesthesia, as my doctor wanted to do the procedure with local anesthesia.

They told me it wouldn%26#039;t be as deep a sleep as when done in a hospital, but my experience was honestly the exact same. I got the gas first, then a needle in my arm (which I didn%26#039;t even register because of the gas), and then I was out. Woke up really groggy and swollen, but no pain. It felt as if just a second had passed. I was not aware of anything at all. They usually warn you that you may be aware of what%26#039;s going on as a precautionary act, but this is very very rare.

Came home, took some advil and slept it off. Wasn%26#039;t as bad as I thought it would be. Word of advice: make sure you have some %26quot;liquid%26quot; food for your recovery. Soup, yogurt and apple sauce did it for me, but my friend lived off spagetti-o%26#039;s when she had hers done.

Good luck and just get it over with!
